3D Configurator

3D configurators can help customers create their perfect kitchen, stylize their new vehicle or design their new veranda. A 3D representation can be used by the sales person to help the customer make a good purchase decision, and at the same time speed up the sales process.

Why use 3D configurators in Virtual Reality?

What is a 3D configurator?

Most have already seen 3D configurators. The most commonly used are the configurators such as those at Ikea for creating a kitchen layout, or the ones used on car manufacturer’s websites to create choose the options for your brand new car.

A 3D configurator allows the user to change properties such as color, style or behavior of various part of a 3D rendered environment. The environment can contain a single object (eg car, chair, …) or a more complex environment (such as a kitchen, veranda, swimming pool, …). By allowing the user to change the properties himself, the sales representative allows the user to already specify better what he is looking for, and it gives the opportunity to talk in more details about the various aspects of the purchase.

Online Configurator

An online configurator is integrated in the website of the company and allows its visitors to customize the product online. Afterwards, the client is able to send this configuration to the company and purchase or get a customized quote for his/her setup.

Touchscreen Configurator

This type of configurator typically is optimized for use on a tablet or large touchscreen monitor. The configurator will allow for natural interaction and will be typically used in a showroom or by a sales representative as part of the sales pitch and to help people visualize the end product.

VR Configurator

A VR configurator allows the sales representative to show in real size the end product to the user. For example, the user can walk into the kitchen he is about to purchase. If integrated correctly, this experience can greatly advance the sales process, and increase conversion.

AR Configurator

Similar to a touchscreen configurator, an AR configurator will allow the user to configure the end product typically on a smart phone or tablet. Once configured, the product can be shown through the smartphone at the location where the user is standing. This way, one can for example place a coffee machine directly in the kitchen and see if it fits the setup of the kitchen.

Cloud Computing for 3D configurators

3D Configurators can be complex projects. Therefore we advise our clients to first discuss their challenges with us, so we can come together to a common understanding of what such 3D configurator would include. This way, we can more quickly build a first proof-of-concept which can be refined based on early customer feedback (eg of a select group of testers). Using this sprint-based approach, we can cost-effectively come to a reliable and high-performing solution.

To lower the up-front investment and on-site installation, we can also offer cloud-based computing. This way, the 3D configurator will run in the cloud, and you can run the configurator on any end-point device (eg ipad, large touchscreen, laptop, …). This solution offers a lot of flexibility to the end user, as it allows you to take the configurator with you wherever you go.
